Final Blog Post

I chose my topic based off of the Purdue Library database. I think that bullying, discrimination, and teasing are common in today's society towards everyone. My target audience is more generalized for anyone who wants to learn about effective communication and the impacts of discrimination. I decided on my target audience based on the design of my PowerPoint. My PowerPoint is very cartoony and can be school-aged appropriate. It is not a difficult PowerPoint to understand. I shared my materials on Twitter. When I try to upload my PDF and screenshot to this blog, it will not let me. You can find my materials on Brightspace. The hardest part of summarizing the research article is not knowing how much data to include and what was necessary to put in this project. I thought the fact sheet made it easy to make the PowerPoint. All of my data, points, topics, etc. came from my fact sheet. This was nice because I did not have to hunt for any more information in the article again. I hope that others take away my message of "Be Kind. Be Respectful. Be Open-minded." I believe those three mottos have the biggest impact on others. I thought this was going to be a research paper because of the fact sheet. I learned how to make research into a creative and fun lesson. Since coming to college, I have never had to make a project like this so it was a lot of fun for me to do!

Pacific Islanders are trying to maintain their culture in Las Vegas which is called the "9th island". Hawaii has a very high cost of living which is a factor for them moving to the mainland. Blog 14 due 4/17

The macro-level factors related to cumulative trauma are historical trauma, pervasive institutional discrimination, and a hostile national context. The microlevel traumatic experiences are interpersonal discrimination and microaggressions. This level also included struggles with identity and recognition. Some of the outcomes for MENA Americans are hopelessness, insecurity, and alienation. Not all MENA people are Muslims, and not all Muslims are MENA. Adjusting to the American society can be hard as well which can lead to culture shock, issues with language barriers, and social exclusions. People come to America in hopes to achieve the American Dream or even just a better life. Week 13 blog due 4/10

I think racism affects mental health because it tears you down mentally. You start thinking bad about yourself and rely on others' opinions of you. Racism to me is a form of bullying which is not okay. This can give you anxiety which can turn into affecting your physical health. Mental health is just as important as physical health. It is a proven fact that if your mental health is not okay it will start to deteriorate your physical health. If you are so nervous about being bullied you may not eat, sleep, etc. which has a great impact on physical health. My article for our final project is actually about how ethnic and racial discrimination affects adolescents. My study proved that it causes anxiety, lower academic performance, and more. I was also surprised to find out that most of the discrimination was in form of ethnic/racial teasing which came from their friends.
