I personally think that it is frustrating how there is a big difference in all of the numbers whether it's the rate of incarceration, income, job opportunities, etc. I support equality, but I do not know how to put that support into action. I actually had to go to prison for a career day in high school. They showed us the different jobs in the police force and at the prison. It was a very neat experience, but the way they projected the prisoners as being wasn't great. I hate to say that they were right because the prisoners did act the way the officers said they would, but I also think a part of why they were routy is because they don't get lots of visitors. As a high school girl, it was scary because they told us not to look at them, wear conservative clothing, etc. since the prisoners haven't seen any girls in a while. This personal experience did not help my outlook on prisons, but it did make me 1000% positive that I do not ever want to go to prison/jail. An issue w...

Please reflect on the following questions from this week's materials: I think that White privilege and educational inequality started way back in our history of segregation. This did not end until 1954 in Brown v. Board of Education (Educational Inequality Lecture 11, slide 3). I think that educational inequality is a matter of racial differences but also family income. Education receives their money based on property taxes. So the areas with wealthier homes automatically get more resources in today's society. Back then it was all about race, but I feel like that has changed. I think that White families automatically have more opportunities and resources. Most white people get the opportunity to go on to higher education, and most of the time the parents pay for it. Black families may just go straight into working to provide for their families. If they do go to college they have to get as many scholarships as possible and may have to pay it all themselves. I think the size of t...

A common racial ideology today I think is the cultural racism surrounding Black families. Some examples are that black families struggle because they live in poverty, don't have an education or good education, or are incarcerated (Racial Ideologies Lecture Slide 13). It is very easy to stereotype these families into this category that they are not doing enough or that they put themselves in these bad situations. I think that White people believe in this ideology because of history. It has always been that whites have more than blacks, are better, can afford more opportunities and materials for their families. Parental opinions also have a big impact on the reasons people may believe this cultural racism ideology. For example, my grandparents grew up with the fact that whites are better than blacks. Nowadays they do not realize that some of the comments they make could be offensive to other people. The fact that white people believe that there is superiority is an example of biolo...
