Blog Post 1 due 1/16

My name is Morgan Kobza. I am a white American who was born and raised in the United States of America. Ethnicity-wise- Irish, Polish, and Czech are my main identities. Learning the definitions of race, nationality, and ethnicity helped me to correctly form my identity (Family Diversity Lecture 2, 2021). Being a white American has given me lots of opportunities that others in our country do not have. My parents both have good jobs and have the means to provide for my sister and me. My family would be considered a typical American family. I know that there are many people in America who do not have the same situation as me. When I graduate, I know that I will also have a good job and family. My family does not have a good ethnic identity. We do not immerse ourselves in our ethnicities to learn more about ourselves. My Grandfather is the closest I get to learn about my ethnic identity. He loves to talk about our family tree and the family's accomplishments. I hope to go to Ireland with my Grandfather someday to strengthen my ethnic identity (Family Diversity Lecture, 2021, slide 18). His side of the family takes annual trips to Ireland with an agenda to see all of our family's "historical landmarks." Along with seeing the sites, I think it would be neat to meet his extended family. This semester is the heaviest course load I have ever taken in a semester. I foresee some time management issues. I already have a weekly planner to plan out when to do what assignments. I think that should help so I know what I have to focus on each day.
